The Stichting Volksmuziek Nederland originated in 1983 from the merging of the Stichting Volksmuziek Utrecht and the Vereniging Volksmuziek Nederland. This new cooperation aims to promote the practicing of folk music in a broad sense, with the emphasis on European folk music. The activities of the Stichting Volksmuziek Nederland include the following:
Information about:
  • practicing music;
  • folk groups;
  • instrument makers;
  • festivals.
Publishing:
  • Folkadressengids, a folk group directory;
  • Sheet music
  • Diatonisch Nieuwsblad, a quarterly for those playing or interested in the diatonic accordion;
  • MIDI-files on floppy disks, collections of tunes supplied on floppy disk.
Organising courses:
  • Irish traditional music;
  • Dutch folk music course;
  • A course in ensemble playing for various folkmusic-styles;
  • A week-long course during the autumn half-turn holiday. This course is instrument orientated;
  • A course for various sorts of free reed instruments.
In the course of time the Stichting Volksmuziek Nederland has become an organisation which is often appealed to. People who want to know something about possibilities, groups, instruments; other organisations want support for their own activities or information, etc.
